Release Date: 17 October 2011
"Soul Punk" is the eagerly anticipated brand new debut solo studio album by the cult icon, American singer/song writer Patrick Stump, the former lead singer and musician of the pop punk band Fall Out Boy, and is the first major solo project since the band went on hiatus in late 2009. The album is a soulful-styled pop masterpiece, composed of beautifully created melodic tracks with fantastically catchy choruses. Drawing inspiration from musical legends such as Michael Jackson, this album displays a brilliant and contemporary take on classic 80s pop and R&B music. Stump has properly come in to his own as a solo artist, and most definitely found his niche with this album, which is pure energy captured in music, amply displaying Stump's distinctive and incredible vocals, combined with rapid melodic guitar and synth-styled dance worthy beats providing backing. Featured on this record is the single "This City" featuring the popular American rapper Lupe Fiasco, of which a version minus Fiasco is also included on the album. The tracks "Explode" and "Spotlight (No Regrets)" have been uploaded to Stump's official YouTube channel, as well as an alternate version of "Spotlight" entitled "Spotlight (Oh Nostalgia)", for which a music video has been made. Despite the die hard Fall Out Boy fans being thoroughly negative towards Stump's solo work, this album allows Patrick to finally express himself as a solo artist, and this album could not be better for a debut. Absolutely brilliant - C.E.
