'Realism' is the ninth album from mastermind producer - songwriter - instrumentalist Stephin Merritt's band Magnetic Fields. It is third in a trilogy of non-synth records, following 'I' and 'Distortion'. Merritt continues his wry romantic lyrics which are married with a folk-pop sound, as opposed to the noise-pop sound of previous albums. The stripped down folk sound utilises Merritt's dry vocal which is accompanied by Claudia Gonson's brighter tones.
