Maxophone are rightly considered one of the great 'one-shot' Italian bands who seemed to come out of nowhere, made one excellent album and then dissapeared again, and their self titled album from 1975 is a classic of the genre. Now, 30 years later, there is a follow-up of sorts. This set includes a CD with 10 tracks made up of outtakes and demo versions from 1973-1975, including four compositions that weren't ever released. These recordings were done on 4-track equipment, so not exactly completely professional, but quite good for demos of the timeperiod. All recordings have been carefully remastered: the songs on the CD were recorded on 4-tracks equipment and lasts roughly one hour. Of even more interest is the DVD which includes live footage of the band from a 1976 concert, recorded at RAI studios in Torino, Italy, as well as one track of the reformed band in 2005 plus bonus interviews. The musical performances on the DVD are about half an hour. It also extremely nicely packaged and while priced as only the Italians seem to do (I guess no one there has heard about value-for-money), if you are willing to pay the price, this is a really nice set of rarities from a band no-one expected to ever be able to say, "Isn't that live video great?", and fans will be thrilled. The funniest part is watching the interview section in English, where they didn't use subtitles, but overdubbed English speakers on top of these poor Italian speakers, so it's like watching all those old Italian Hercules movies that were dubbed just as badly.
