By the 1980s Doc Watson had already redefined the role of the acoustic guitar in American folk music, showing that professional skill and dynamics were not incompatable with a deep commitment to musical traditionalism. These later performances feature duet partners Jack Williams, Merle Watson (Doc's son) and Ricky Skaggs and a stellar stringband featuring Mark O'Connor, Tony Rice, Bela Fleck, David Grisman, and Jerry Douglas. The video ends with a solo set which brings Doc's music full circle, its earthly integrity intact throughout.
