Tim Buckley never sold a meaningful amount of records in his sadly brief life. He managed to record nine albums in that time, including, with 'Lorca' and 'Starsailor', two of the most 'difficult' listening experiences of all time. The world of the commercial didn't concern him, which no doubt infuriated his record companies and management alike. With him, it was all about making music, and following whatever creative impulses ruled him. This DVD rounds up just about all of the available TV footage from various sources around the Globe, and gives a tantalising glimpse into the man's life and times. The twenty minutes or so of footage from his 'Starsailor' era band are worth the price of admission alone, but factor in other footage from Dutch TV, his appearance on the last ever 'Monkees' show, and a couple of numbers from the BBC 2 60s arts show 'Late Night Line-Up', and you have a fine encapsulation of one of the most gifted, if woefully undersold, talents of all time. The interviews with Buckley's guitarist, Lee Underwood, lyricist Larry Beckett and biographer David Browne fill in much useful biographical detail. Buckley's son, Jeff, who died ten years ago, was perhaps the only artist whose talent approached his dad. His untimely death drew a line under the Buckley dynasty, and rock music is much impoverished as a result. This is an excellent DVD, though, and well worth your hard-earned.
