Neil Young - Life - CD

Personnel: Neil Young (vocals, guitar, harmonica, keyboards); Frank Sampedro (guitar, keyboards); Billy Talbot (bass); Ralph Molina (drums). Producers: David Briggs, Neil Young, Jack Nitzsche. Digitally remastered by Chris Bellman. LIFE was Neil Young's first album with Crazy Horse in almost a decade, but fans expecting a return to the classic Crazy Horse two-guitar proto-grunge sound were thrown another curveball typical of Young's mercurial '80s work. Although some of the songs here ("Too Lonely," "Prisoners of Rock 'N' Roll") are as fuzzed out and attitudinal ("We never listen to the record company man") as you could hope for, much of the album is in preconception-shattering mode of most of Young's work of the period, replete with synth bass and big '80s drum sounds. Highlights include the stripped-down "When Your Lonely Heart Breaks," one of Young's loveliest ballads, and the crankily political "Mideast Vacation."
Disc 1: Mideast Vacation (4:22) Long Walk Home (4:56) Around The World (5:28) Inca Queen (8:01) Too Lonely (2:49) Prisoners Of Rock 'N' Roll (3:13) Cryin' Eyes (2:52) When Your Lonely Heart Breaks (5:17) We Never Danced (3:38)
