Release Date: 13 February 2012
Described by Tom Morello as being his “political folk alter ego”, the concept behind his “Nightwatchman” emerged in 2003 as an outlet for his strongly held political views and activism during his time as a part of the hard rock super group Audioslave. Despite Morello initially having reservations about transferring the concept from the podium to the recording studio “One Man Revolution” was released In 2007. The recording saw Morello adopting the folk style and delivery of Woody Guthrie and pre electric era Dylan and then combining it with the type of scathing social commentary found on Springsteen albums like “Nebraska” and “The Ghost of Tom Joad”. The explosive concoction of righteous anger and rugged acoustic guitar is clearly demonstrated with tracks like the apocalyptic vision of “California's Dark”, the fiercely defiant “Union Song”, the poignant statement on the futility of the war on terror “No One Left” and the title track's incendiary call for revolt and revolution. “One Man Revolution” is a powerful recording that demands listeners to go out and combat the injustice and inequality which Morello sees as underpinning society. - A.B.
