Re-Press: Cd Originally Released In 1998. Based on Nell Dunn’s controversial novel, the 1968 film Up The Junction pulled few punches in dealing with contemporary London working class life. With a cast featuring Suzy Kendall and Dennis Waterman, the certificate X movie was also notable for a strong score performed and written by Mike Hugg and Manfred Mann. Not their first foray in film music, it nevertheless remains one of their strongest works of the period and is hugely enjoyable in its own right. Director Peter Collinson was more than pleased with the outcome: The result was incredible; they captured the heart of the picture. Their music belonged to the picture, it was not superimposed. The tunes will exist long after the picture has been forgotten. This welcome re-press includes the original Fontana soundtrack album along with an equally rare single bside as a bonus. Comprehensive notes by John Williams detail the project, backed up with interviews and memorabilia, including both original UK and US album sleeves.
