When Strangers Meet - The Silk Road Project a wide-ranging multicultural odyssey, inspired and personally guided by cellist Yo-Yo Ma makes its recording debut on Sony Classical's Silk Road Journeys: When Strangers Meet. The Silk Road Project explores the rich cultural traditions that flourished along the Silk Road, the historic link between the peoples of Europe and Asia. The new recording introduces The Silk Road Ensemble, a collective of over a dozen like-minded musicians dedicated to exploring the relationship between tradition and innovation in music from the East and West. Ma joins the ensemble on each track of the recording, which features newly created works from Asian and Middle Eastern composers and multicultural "jam" sessions that bring together Eastern and Western musical traditions.
