After the massive success of his country crossover, which included number one hits in the U.S., Jerry Lee Lewis recorded the pilot for his own television variety show. It was intended to tempt networks into a weekly show, but it was neither picked up nor ever shown. This wasn't surprising in itself; despite his enormous success in country music Jerry Lee Lewis was still regarded by many to be purely rock 'n' roll, and a show that contained elements of both didn't fit into the rigid confines of television style at the time. A Man well beyond his time, it would be decades before a mainstream artist could mix between country and rock 'n' roll and blur the boundaries between them.

Thirty years on, this DVD provides a unique opportunity to view The Killer in his country prime working with probably the best Memphis-Beats line-up including Eddie Debruhl, Buddy Church, Charlie Owen and Jerry Lee's best friend, the splendid Kenny Lovelace. The programme includes duets and a jam with Carl, Jackie and sister Linda Gail Lewis plus fascinating location material shot in Florida, Louisiana and Natchez, Mississippi. As such it is a must for any rock and country collection and a chance to relish Jerry Lee Lewis at his best.
