The Swedish death metal band Dark Funeral officially formed in 1993, and distinguished itself from many other groups in the same genre via its unusually heightened emphasis on Satanic imagery and lyrics, and overwhelmingly anti-Christian themes that reveled in sacrilege. It also attained some press for its bizarre and opulent stage shows, in which group members exhibited all manner of visceral imagery on stage.
