"With a mighty assist from the Deutschen Philharmonie of Bremen, the Art Ensemble of Chicago digs into their bag of musical tricks and presents an amazing display of Afro-tinged avant-garde jazz performances. Lester Bowie, Malachi Favors, Joseph Jarman, Roscoe Mitchell and Don Moye have merged their individual souls into a greater collective, adopting the motto "Great Black Music; Ancient to the Future". They have put forth their soulfulness and experimentation and radical commentary in face paint, costumes, and unique instruments as they explore musical frontiers.
