The Ramones played this mid-day free set in 1979 outside of San Francisco’s City Hall. After the band’s movie debut in Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, this gig drew a whole new crowd, with young girls lining the front row. Ramones was an American punk rock band formed in New York City in 1974. They’re often cited as the first band to define the punk rock sound. Despite achieving only limited commercial success, the band was very influential in both the US and the UK, inspiring also the emergence of hardcore punk, pop punk and alternative punk.
