Kurt Cobain's tragic suicide in 1993 sealed a posthumous legacy for himself and his band Nirvana unmatched since the similar Rock and Roll demises of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Nick Drake and Ian Curtis. As label boss Tony Wilson commented after Curtis's suicide in 1980, 'death shifts units' - much like Kurt's 'Radio Friendly' buddies.

And since that fateful afternoon in Seattle the cash registers have barely stopped ringing - but far more importantly, subsequent generations have had their very own hero to inform and inspire them.
